Wow! signal

The Wow! signal was a strong narrowband radio signal detected on August
15, 1977, by Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope in the
United States, then used to support the search for extraterrestrial
intelligence. The signal appeared to come from the direction of the
constellation Sagittarius and bore expected hallmarks of extraterrestrial origin.

Wow! シグナル（ワウ! シグナル、ワオ! シグナル、英語: Wow! signal）とは、
天文学における未解決案件の一つ。1977年8月15日にSETIプロジェクトの観測を
行っていたオハイオ州立大学のジェリー・R・エーマンが、ビッグイヤー電波望
遠鏡で受信した電波信号である。日本語では「ワオ信号」ともいう。

狭い周波数に集中した強い信号で、太陽系外の地球外生命によって送信された
可能性が指摘されている。望遠鏡は信号を72秒間に渡り観測することに成功したが、
以降の探査では同様の現象は見つけられず、その起源は謎のままである。
